Seekonk Speedway
First Race July 11th!
Race in front of thousands of people!
Below are pictures from the 100 foot Drags at Waterford, Conn. at the Waterford Speedbowl.
We're BACK! We're putting finishing touches on it right now, but we'll be running on a weekly basis starting Saturday night July 11th at SEEKONK SPEEDWAY, Seekonk, MA. This is a new venue for us, but the owners are enthusiastic about us coming in.
These events will be called the "HDRA STOPLIGHT SERIES". We will be using a traffic light to start the cars off the line. The tree and conventional timing system will not be used in this series, as there is insufficient time to set up all the equipment without interfering with the rest of the racing program. What our thoughts are is to divide cars into classes, so that EVERYBODY will have a chance to win a trophy.
So... you are wondering what our future plans are...
1. We're looking to go back to Waterford. We have a meeting set up with the operators right in a little over a week to discuss doing this on Wednesday nights in conjunction with their "Wacky Wednesday" program. They too are enthusiastic to look at this, so we feel the possibilities are good we could have 2 venues rolling along within a few weeks. More forthcoming as things develop. The "STOPLIGHT SERIES" theme will be in play here also for the same reasons as Seekonk... no time to set up and disconnect a normal timing system.
2. In October, we are looking to run at least one big special at each venue in which the facilities are reserved just for us. We will then have the tree and timing system that we used in the past, with the indexes and bracket racing formats.
More info will be coming, but our first priority is to just get Seekonk up and running. PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD, and help get the first event successfuly off the ground. Call your friends!
.................................................................................
Here's what we have in mind for classes... keep in mind we will be tweaking things abit, but it will give you a rough idea on what class you will be in.
First, classes will be determined by how many "performance adders" a car has. They are as follows: Supercharger, Turbocharger, NOS, Alcohol fuel, soft compound or race oriented tires, all-wheel drive, V6 = 1 adder, V8 or larger = 2 adders. Note:these are in the "rough draft" stage, and are subject to change before the events (or even after we start). Note: Full size full frame cars (i.e. Caprice, Crown Victoria) and trucks subtract 1 adder.
Class B - 2 adders
Class C - 1 adder
Class D - 4 cylinder, no adders
Let us know what you think! Feedback is welcome. As said before, classes are subject to changes and tweaking.
We're impressed by the response we got this past weekend from our fliers at the Saturday and Sunday shows at Seekonk. We're still working on getting the schedule sorted out, but this is the plan for the moment (it could change). We are going to see if we can get you guys in for a quick test & tune during the warmup sessions that happen between 4-6pm (no guarantees), so we suggest you get to the track before that time to get registered and signed in. We are still trying to determine when we will be running the drags. It is assumed it will be in the middle of the stock car program, although they may save us until the end. Hopefully we will know more by tonight and pass that on tomorrow. As soon as that info is known, we will post it. In the meantime, continue to call and email your friends. And as it says on the line below....
SPREAD THE WORD!!!
.....................................
"What is Holeshot Drag Racing?" Holeshot Drag Racing is a short distance drag race of 100 feet. Traditional Drag Strips are usually 1/8 or 1/4 mile in length, using a tremendous amount of real estate. Holeshot Drags utilize only a fraction of that space, allowing this type of event to be held in more venues such as parking lots, stock car tracks, etc.
The most action in a race is right in the begining when the cars do their burnouts, and when they launch from the starting line. Holeshot Drags has all of this, plus the advantage of the whole racing program being run at a fast pace. Racers get more runs in a day than at other conventional strips... getting 10-15 test & tune runs in a day is not uncommon. We had one racer get 31 time shots in before eliminations!
What is HDRA's mission?
Our mission at HDRA is for everyone to have a good time and blow off a little steam by racing their cars in a safe legal place. Our goal is to bring back racing to areas that no longer have drag racing (or never did). We already have that started in Conn. We are looking to provide an safe alternative to street racing. For those racing, we are looking to keep this FUN! This means keeping everything simple, and the cost of racing affordable.
What kind of cars can run?
These races will be for licensed drivers with street legal cars only (including DOT tires and closed off exhaust). All street legal cars are eligible, from the wildest pro-street to the guy driving "mom's car". All cars will be competitive, as there will be different classes separating the fast cars from the slower ones. We will also be doing traditional bracket racing at the end of the season in which you can choose your own dial-in.
